The aim of the WeatherDisruption project is to strengthen regional and local preparedness for disruptions in food and water supply caused by extreme weather events, such as storms and heavy rainfall, in civil protection situations. The project develops and tests new operational models and solutions to ensure the basic needs of the population – especially food and water – are met even when external logistics are disrupted.

The project is implemented in broad cooperation, led by Savonia University of Applied Sciences (https://www.savonia.fi/en/) and the Emergency Services Academy (https://www.pelastusopisto.fi/en/), and involves regional authorities, companies, and other stakeholders.

During the project, various disruption scenarios will be constructed and tested in practical exercises to assess and improve the preparedness of civil shelters and the reliability of food and water logistics. In addition, the project will produce a scalable operational model and guide to support contingency planning for authorities and companies linked to climate crises and to enhance cooperation in crisis situations. As a result, the project will generate concrete solutions and operational models that can be utilized both regionally and nationally in the development of civil protection.
